Limited-edition washi paper dial models capturing fleeting moments of beauty found in nature
The CITIZEN watches, created as part of CITIZEN’s pursuit of the essence of the watch, provide both superior quality and outstanding accuracy. Two new limited-edition models from the Iconic Nature Collection feature movements equipped with light-powered Eco-Drive*1 and high annual accuracy of ± 5 seconds. The unique Tosa Washi paper on the dials captures fleeting moments of beauty found in nature.

These two new models from the Iconic Nature collection are inspired by the wind and the moon, used as motifs for poems and paintings in Japan since ancient times.
The dials of both models feature Japanese Tosa Washi paper with a distinctive texture that allows light to pass through to the movement of the watch while expressing the beauty of the natural world. These unique characteristics make this natural material perfect for pairing with The CITIZEN’s light-powered watches with annual accuracy of ±5 seconds. When light hits the dial, the surface of the paper reveals subtle gradients of color and delicate swirls that allow the wearer to delight in the beauty of nature through the subtle shifting of hues and textures.
The AQ4100-65H model features Tosa Washi paper on the dial combining multiple layers of grey-tinged blue tones in subtle patterns to portray the natural ripples which the wind inscribes in the sands of the deserts and dunes. The case and bracelet are made of Super Titanium™*2 treated with Duratect*3 Platinum, providing an almost transparent silver hue that contrasts beautifully with the colors on the dial.
The AQ4106-18X features the soft, gentle tones of Tosa washi paper with its ancient egasumi-mon pattern, traditionally used in paintings and drawings, in subtle shades of brown, evoking the gentle light of the half-hidden moon on a misty night. The Super Titanium™ case is treated with luxuriously smooth, black-toned Duratect DLC and the strap is made of hand-crafted Chari-Happo goatskin leather. The leather is tanned with plant-based tannins and meticulously massaged in all directions to produce a distinctive texture with pronounced peaks and troughs. This soft, durable leather beautifully complements the ethereal beauty of the dial.

These models are equipped with high-accuracy light-powered Eco-Drive movements with annual accuracy of ±5 seconds, eliminating the need for regular battery changes. All The CITIZEN models with high annual accuracy also feature a perpetual calendar that automatically adjusts the date at the end of each month, including in leap years, until February 28, 2100. These models are also equipped with CITIZEN’s proprietary impact detection and lock function to protect the watch mechanism, an automatic hand correction function in the event that the hands deviate from the correct time, as well as a calendar that changes instantly at the stroke of midnight.

CITIZEN’s proprietary Super Titanium™ is the ideal material for wristwatches - it is lightweight (approx. 40% lighter than stainless steel) with superior hardness (approx. 5 times harder than stainless steel), as well as being corrosion resistant and gentle on the skin.

The dial, crown, and case back feature an eagle mark - the symbol of The CITIZEN. Eagles have incredible eyesight – they can clearly spot their prey from a distance of 1,000 meters or more. A first within the watch industry, Eco-Drive was certified as an Eco Mark product by the Japan Environment Association (JEA) and recognized for its contribution to environmental sustainability.
- *2 Super Titanium™ is CITIZEN’s proprietary technology to treat solid titanium with surface hardening technology. It is at least 5 times harder than stainless steel, resistant to scratches, lightweight and gentle to the skin for comfortable wearing.
- *3 Duratect is CITIZEN’s proprietary surface hardening technology that enhances the surface hardness of metals such as stainless steel and titanium, protecting watch bodies from scratches and damage. This technology offers excellent abrasion quality and maintains the luster of metals for long periods of time. Platinum is a soft precious metal with Vickers hardness of 50-100 HV. CITIZEN’s proprietary surface hardening technology boosts this figure to 1,000-1,200 Hv. This treatment provides superior hardness as well as a bright, almost transparent, silver sheen to produce remarkably beautiful timepieces. (Vickers hardness of stainless steel is approx. 200 Hv). Duratect DLC achieves Vickers hardness of 1,000-1,400 by creating an amorphous carbon hard film—mainly composed of carbon and hydrogen—on the surface of the material.
